Save and recycle good

Saving money in food after a big dinner party, brunch or bbq (braai) at home is something easy to do. Usually we get a lot of leftovers like chicken, beef, fish, bread and  vegetables. Things that can make you spend less and make a good meal, Here are some examples which I make at home: If you have some chicken  leftovers make some chicken salad or sandwich. Simply slice it in to strips and re-fry, add seasoning to it once more to change the taste, you can also add flavours and coulors by putting in herbs, peppers, sauces or even fruits.  A different idea is turning it into a stir-fry. Dice it and then add peppers, onions, broccoli salt and pepper, let it chill, put it in between two slices of bread then you have a home-made sandwich that is cheaper and easy to make with the ingredients you love the most "to your level of food style and taste".   Keep playing with your leftovers, if you have some beef  make beef stripped salad...

Chop, bag & freeze

In this post I would like to share basics on how to preserve food or ingredients for a longer time, where it might be that you are staying alone at home and you are always busy.  Buying fruit and vegetables is always simple but on most times we don't consume all of them in one day. We always say we'll have that when, but before that date it's spoiled and we have to take it out, at that point it's money down the drain.  So something that will help us, is giving yourself and hour after doing grocery and just peeling some of your vegetables and plastic packing them into small packets for easy use whenever cooking. Butternut, green beans, carrots, grated tomatoes, etc. are easy to store after diced or chopped. You have to be careful cause not all fruits and veggies keep shape after defrosting e.g strawberries, and the following is good for freezing like pineapples and black berries. Check out this ideas I saw on Pi nterest: Portioning helps a lot. Remember ...

My mother: Pure passion and inspiration

In this post I will talk about my mother, my mentor and source for inspiration. Her lessons in the kitchen at home are my main reason for being a chef: I took them through the years building them into a passion. Learning recipes from my mother that she learnt from her family members has been the first step I took into doing pastry at home. Let me tell you more about her. W hen she grew up, cooking was the first thing her mother told her as in our culture is common that woman learn to cook at a tender age. Through the years this has been very useful, I remember when I was little  she used to  made extra cash and baked on weekends. The thing I remember the most is her baking her famous "Quins Cake", very popular in South Africa, I start helping her doing her  mise en place  without even knowing what was that:  breaking eggs and counting the cups of flour for her while she was adding the baking powder and getting the baking trays ready by basing them with bu...

Introducing Superkabza

Hello! I want to start this blog by introducing myself. I am Kabelo Kalebe, 24 year old cook. I was born in South Africa and I have a love for good and healthy food. The main reason of starting this blog is to share with you my passion for food, culture, photography and my knowledge and experience of taking day by day ingredients and making a simple and healthy light meal in a short time. I will also tell you about my adventures which got me to this point. So where did my passion come from? In the year 2010 I used to work in a hotel in Protea in the front office and the bar, where I got the chance to get in touch with the kitchen. That´s when I realised that I wanted to be in the culinary world. So I decided to study to be a cook in the Mafikeng Institute of Hotel Management in the North West Province, South Africa and graduated in the year 2012. I realized that before studying, I was already passionate about cooking. My mother and aunts are my main inspirations. It is known...
