Save and recycle good

Saving money in food after a big dinner party, brunch or bbq (braai) at home is something easy to do. Usually we get a lot of leftovers like chicken, beef, fish, bread and  vegetables. Things that can make you spend less and make a good meal, Here are some examples which I make at home:
  • If you have some chicken leftovers make some chicken salad or sandwich. Simply slice it in to strips and re-fry, add seasoning to it once more to change the taste, you can also add flavours and coulors by putting in herbs, peppers, sauces or even fruits.

  • A different idea is turning it into a stir-fry. Dice it and then add peppers, onions, broccoli salt and pepper, let it chill, put it in between two slices of bread then you have a home-made sandwich that is cheaper and easy to make with the ingredients you love the most "to your level of food style and taste".

  • Keep playing with your leftovers, if you have some beef make beef stripped salad. If you want you can stir-fry it and add to a pasta dish.

  • With fish you can turn it to a sea food pasta also, adding different kinds of left overs always work because they bring a combination of a tasty plate of food. Adding mayo to tuna can also be made into a cold salad and a dip for another night of hosting friends again.

  • Whenever you have bread leftovers one can always make bread crumbs by drying them with an oven, then blending bit it and reusing them to cot chicken, fish or to nicely bag them and use at a later stage. Also croutons is a good idea just cut the bread into big pieces and add with some olive oil, garlic and salt, you can use them on soups or salads.

  • Finally, for the ones who love sweets you can make a delicious bread pudding. Here a quick recipe:  Cut the bread in mirepoix, mix 1 quart of heavy cream, 8 eggs, 3 granny smiths apples, 1 cup of chopped pecans, 1 tablespoon of cinnamon, 5 oz of vanilla, a pinch of salt and 8 oz of melted butter. Mix everything and put it in an oiled pan and then bake it in the oven at 180 degrees celsius for about an hour... dessert is ready! Eat it with some caramel sauce and ice cream. You can also change the flavour of your bread pudding by adding some sliced bananas, white chocolate chips, nuts and marshmallows.

Tell me what else would you make with your leftovers.
